A Lament - For loving them both

I know You, God
You said You’d always be with us
And You were there, among your people.

I know You heard it all
The prayers, the rain,
The footfall of the 5000.
The unborn heart beating loudly
across the parklands in the city of churches.

And You heard too
the later debates,
the decisions,
the self-congratulations.
Nothing escapes You.

This hurts.
Hearts are breaking
with love for them both.

Hearts that burned for Your will
to be done here, in our state,
as in heaven.
now dry as dust, disappointed.

Disheartened

So why God?
Who have we got to go to but You?
How long will you hide your will from us?
Save us in our broken State.

Whatever we are feeling is just a shadow
of how Your heart breaks for us,
Your beloved.

Even in this wasteland, this wilderness
of a world gone awry, You are making a way,
Your streams are coming
To quench the thirst of our nation,
For Your Kingdom to come,
For your goodness to be known here
As in heaven
Where so many young hearts are made whole
And beating loudly in Your presence

I know You, God
No sparrow falls without Your knowledge.
You heal hearts and bind wounds.
Though hurt and broken hearted,
yet will I hope in You.

Yes, Margot! I love the way you're bringing the language of the psalms to bear on our current troubles.

What a wonderful thing to pray! I loved this, Margot, and the play on words “Save us in our broken State” is absolute gold. What a healthy way to approach current events...by approaching the throne of grace. You shared your feelings with honesty here but you directed them to the Lord, and that’s very instructive. Thank you for this timely piece.
